“The EV movement, where it all started”

What started back in 2013 as a couple engineering studies has turned into much more for the team at GENESYS. It was nine years ago that GENESYS found its entry path into the world of electric vehicles, doing engineering studies and health assessments for Tesla Motors at their facility in Fremont, California.

“Tesla was big, exciting and shiny” explained Matt Perry with a smile as to why GENESYS decided to go after work with the newer electric vehicle manufacturer years ago. “Many bidders wanted to sell new stuff and we were open to working with what equipment Tesla had (to manufacture automobiles) in their facility. It was a great opportunity for us here at GENESYS,” Perry, President of GENESYS said.

That great opportunity gave GENESYS the opportunity needed to perform twenty projects for Tesla from 2013 to 2019. New floor conveyors, overhead conveyors, recommissioning of existing systems, structural steel projects, and new friction drive systems to name a few that were performed over that time frame. Things picked up significantly last year despite the world dealing with a pandemic as GENESYS brought Walt Barton onto the team. With the addition of Walt, we have been successful the last year to secure and perform almost the same volume of work that we had performed the previous nine years with our friends in Silicon Valley.

The Tesla sale program team led by Kris Dickerson has been successful in conveyance, fabrication, large rigging projects, and numerous smaller projects for the engineering teams at the Fremont facility. Our work at Tesla has been consistent enough that we have brought in a full-time project manager, Alyson Skidmore. She is based in the bay area to over see work at the plant and surrounding area. “I love the challenges working in the plant, and it is California,” Skidmore said.

Due to the success at the Fremont facility, our GENESYS team has started performing work at the new Tesla facility in Austin, Texas. This fast-paced install at Austin has yielded work in the general assembly with SCIVIC installing multiple build lines as well as some major rigging projects with the German molding company IDRA.

With all the construction activities taking place at the Austin site, our installation team is set to help Tesla and their vendors with their construction needs to get the new Cybertruck up and running and out to consumers. That business decision GENESYS made in 2013 continues to be one that reaps benefits as the EV shares more and more market share.
